ANTICHRIST SIEGE MACHINE: Morbid Triumph
Release year: 2017/2020
Label: Krucyator Productions
The cumbersomely named Antichrist Siege Machine from the US are among the newer crop of bands exploring the narrow but bountiful realms of bestial black metal and/or war metal. Having formed in 2016, they’ve thus far released one full length album, Schism Perpetration (reviewed here) and a number of smaller releases.
Morbid Triumph was their first EP, prior to which they had released one demo. Originally released in 2017, this 18-minute taster of death metal -tinged black metal was re-released in 2020 by Krucyator Productions.
Basically, what I wrote about Schism Perpetration applies to Morbid Triumph as well: this is down-tuned, rabid bestial black metal with elements liberally lifted from classic death metal. The combo is in no way particularly original, although I do feel Antichrist Siege Machine incorporate more, and more prominent death metal elements than a lot of their colleagues within war metal/bestial black metal.
As with the debut album, Morbid Triumph isn’t so much about individual hit songs. Most of the songs are pretty interchangeable, and don’t stand out for their riffs – which are a down-tuned chaos – or pretty little melodies. What Antichrist Siege Machine rely on is a relentless barrage of violent metal filth. And it works. In fact, it works so well, that the 18 minutes this EP lasts end all too soon.
So, in a nutshell, if chaotic, violent and brutal black/death metal is your thing: check this out. Can’t say it simpler than that.
