Year: 2024Label: Zoharum/Esion Records Here’s a misleading name if I ever heard one. There’s absolutely nothing violent, belligerent or aggressive in Polish That’s How I Fight’s music. With a name like that, I’d expected, I dunno, maybe some kind of … Continue reading THAT’S HOW I FIGHT: Movement Three
Year: 2024Label: Zoharum Here’s a release that might result in some pretty controversial reviews. Or perhaps the reviews won’t be controversial, because so few reviews spark any kind of genuine reaction these days, but I am sure this release will … Continue reading RAPOON: Dream Circle (In Three Phases)
Release year: 2024Label: Zoharum The thing with abstract music is… well, that it’s abstract. I suppose this sounds like a redundant statement, but bear with me a moment. The thing with abstraction is that, essentially, it easily becomes shapeless and … Continue reading ULESA: II
Release year: 2024Label: self-released The Second World War and submarines. My first association is, and always will be, the monumental cinematic epic Das Boot, one of the most gripping and intense movies ever made. Klaus Doldinger’s brilliant soundtrack has a … Continue reading TUILERIES: The Iron Coffin
Release year: 2024Label: Zoharum This is another one of those tricky Zoharum releases to review. Not so much because of the audial contents themselves, but because of the nature of this release. You see, Before And After Silence was recorded … Continue reading NIMH: Before And After Silence
Release year: 1990/2024Label: ZNS Tapes/Zoharum The promo sheet for Polish Zoharum’s recent re-release of German Maeror Tri’s 1990 tape Ambient Dreams mentions that it was created entirely from sounds sourced from natural sources. No electronic sound sources were apparently used. … Continue reading MAEROR TRI: Ambient Dreams
RAPOON: Time Frost Release year: 2007/2023Label: Glacial Movements/Zoharum Talk about a misleading album. The first four tracks on Time Frost are in the passable range of about six minutes – here I was thinking I had finally on my hands … Continue reading Time of frost
UHUSHUHU: Zvirat Release year: 2023Label: Zoharum And here we are again, with more of Polish label Zoharum’s recent ambient releases. As those of you who’ve read my reviews of Vidna Obmana’s (here) and The Stargazer’s Assistant’s (here) recent releases on … Continue reading Uhushuhu’s cosmic drones
VIDNA OBMANA: Crossing The Trail Release year: 1998/2023Label: Projekt/Zoharum Polish Zoharum are at it again, digging into the annals of the past and reissuing somewhat obscure older material. This time around it’s Belgian ambient in the form of Vidna Obmana, … Continue reading Crossing trails with Vidna Obmana
Release year: 2023Label: House Of Mythology/Zoharum Ambient is a tough genre for me. Which is kind of weird, because I really dig dark ambient and especially all kinds of ritualistic, droning minimalism. But “straight” ambient… that’s an entirely different cup … Continue reading THE STARGAZER’S ASSISTANT: Fire Worshipperr’s assistant
